World’s Most Expensive Shoe from Roger Vivier

The most expensive shoe in the world is a vintage design by Roger vivier dating back to 1962. The stunning pair was purchased at an auction on 30 November for a record sum of 19,750 euros (about $26,629). Interestingly, the shoe was purchased by the house of Roger Vivier Pumps, in a bid to keep the entire collection of the late designer intact. The French fashion designer had created this beautiful pair of pumps for Princess Soraya, wife of the late Shah of Iran. The link to Middle Eastern royalty is one reason why the shoe is so precious. Vivier beautified this pair of low-heeled pumps by using silver thread embroidery. The orange glow of topaz stones brought color to the monotone silver. Even today, the shoe retains its royal feel. No wonder it now wears the crown of the most expensive shoe in the world. The luxury accessories house of Roger vivier shoes was given a fresh lease of life eight years ago. That was when Diego della Valle, owner of Tod’s, decided to revive the firm following Vivier’s death in 1998. The commitment of della Valle, artistic director Bruno Frisconi and brand ambassador Ines de la Fressange towards Vivier’s legacy was evident, as the trio battled to keep Vivier’s personal collection intact at the recent auction held in France.
